OBX - Sunset Dinner

We rarely go out to eat when we are on vacation.  Instead, we each take a turn cooking dinner and like to relax and play games at the beach house instead.  It's been that way even before we had Addie, but now that we have Addie and Bella is on the way, I am so thankful for this.  It's fun to divide and conquer on the cooking and we usually get a pretty good spread of food out of it too.  This year we even got some authentic Thai food thanks to Brian and Carla.  Not only is eating in much more our style, but anyone who has babies and toddlers know that going out to nice restaurants is not always the most fun.  First, it's all about timing.  Addie goes down to bed by 7:30, so the normal 8pm dinner time wasn't going to work. The earlier the dinner the earlier everyone has to be ready and that usually means less beach time.  Next, is the issue of keeping a very active toddler entertained for a long meal.  We pack food, books, toys, etc. but no matter what we bring she's done being in the high chair after about 30 minutes.  Finally, is the volume.  Addie is very outspoken and therefore we only choose to go to nice loud restaurants - Mexican is always one of our go-to spots when we are at home.

Even though we are more of the stay in and cook kinda crew, we do go out to one nice dinner every year and Miller's has always been one of our favorites.  The food is good, it's child friendly (at least much more so than our other favorite The Colington Cafe), and it's right on the water so there's always a nice sunset.  They have a nice outdoor area where you can order drinks and listen to live music while you wait for your table, which is also nice.  This year we arrived much earlier than usual and I'm glad everyone was able to adjust this for us.  Brian and Carla even left ahead a time so our wait was very short by the time we got there.  We had a very nice dinner, I got a seafood trio thing which was amazing and Addie actually did okay.  She hit her limit towards the end dinner, but luckily Grandma was there to rescue her and take her outside to run around.  We've been going to Miller's since before Eric and I were married and over the years we have learned not only is it a good dinner spot, but it's also the perfect spot to take a few pictures.  So after dinner, we all joined Addie and Grandma outside for a few pictures before we headed home.

Thanks again Miller's for some yummy food and family fun...until next year!
